Who are you?
We are Naysayer & Gilsun. We produce music and videos in Melbourne, Australia.
Why do you make Music and what does it mean for you?
Making music is the best way to engage with the music that you listen to, especially within the sphere of electronic music. So often the meaning created by electronic music is inextricably linked to aesthetic production choices. Making music and experimenting with production is a great way to penetrate the layers of meaning created by electronic music within a city, a style, a scene, a genre etc.

when did you start learn to play?

We both played instruments we didn't like as children, then started playing around with loops, wires and buttons in our early teenage years.
What's your favourite artist and song?
The answer changes every week, but 2012 for me has been dominated by John Talabot and the 9 minute opener to his album, called "Depak Ine". - Luke
What genres and artists did influence your music?
We've each come from different but very broad backgrounds. One positive by-product of being a pretentious music geek in your teenage years means you feel like you should know every album by every artist ever recorded, so you end up with a diverse range of influences.
While we've been recording and producing this year artists like John Talabot, Radiohead, Actress, I'lls, Joy O and Daphni have been big influences.

Our video show, NGTV, has never been about watching us play. Generally we prefer to not be seen, or barely be seen. People should be watching the screen. We play it in a very similar way to a normal DJ set which means at times there is an intense live element and at times we are just sitting back and letting the track play
What do you think about Music industry nowdays?
Somewhere in the world Steve Albini is smoking a cigar and laughing manically at the state of it all.
What is the message that you'd like to express at the people Who listen to your Music?
Our live shows and the music we produce are about often about creating new spaces. In our live shows we aim to transport the audience to a new space, created by music and visuals that interact with one another. When we play, we hope that the audience feels like they've entered a new world defined by what's going on musically and on the screen. Maybe it's a world where things are dark and uncomfortable, maybe it's a very happy place. We aim for a pretty similar thing when we are producing tracks. We like to define a distinct feeling or ambience for each track that we make, so hopefully when people listen to them they feel transported a little bit. Who knows if we have ever succeeded at that?
Who do you think are the most relevant musicians nowdays?
That Blawan EP, 'His, He, She & She' from earlier in the year seems like a great example of what 'relevance' ought to be. Terrifying and in no way derivative. I feel like a Hipster-Runoff nightmare using that word, though.
What is your favourite book and movie?
F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby and Warren Beatty's film Reds (1981).
How and where do you see yourself in ten years from now?
Living with our parents and rambling about 'the good old days'.
